Portsoken, City of London
Citizens online is working in partnership with The City of London’s Digital Inclusion team to address the digital divide in a unique neighbourhood close to the prosperous banking and brokering area of the City.
The Portsoken ward is located to the east of the city and has two very prominent housing estates. The area, which hosts London’s famous Petticoat Lane Market, was once an established Jewish community but in recent times has become home to a large Bangladeshi population. Both estates have been identified as having low levels of internet connectivity as well as high levels of unemployment and a high proportion of lone parent families.
The EverybodyOnline City of London e-Champions project aims to coordinate a range of internet and ICT activities to widen participation in the use of technology and inspire people to use the internet to enable them to benefit from the many opportunities it can bring.
