St Silas pupils get Wii Fit at school

St Silas pupils get Wii Fit at school

EverybodyOnline in Liverpool 8 has started a brand new project which aims to get pupils excited about returning to class!

Together with partners Heal8, a scheme has been developed to combine children’s love of technology with fitness!

The project centres on the use of the Nintendo Wii, and more specifically the Wii Fit genre, aimed at children aged eight -16 years. The project will run in sessions, it includes an introduction and taster process and continues with sessions that monitor the progress of the children’s skills and fitness, with real-life activity to improve health and well-being.

At the end of the project the Nintendo Wii’s become the property of the School, with the agreement in place that they will continue the program with the direct support of EverybodyOnline & Heal8; who will also remain on hand to lend support and guidance to the schools when needed.

Throughout the month of September the children of years four and five at St Silas School participated in the Wii Fit project with huge enthusiasm. The pupils put their hand eye coordination to the test with tennis, baseball and bowling, and charted their progress from week to week to see how they had improved. They even enjoyed mild competition as they pitted their skills against one another in a knock out tournament.

At the end of October EverybodyOnline will go to the local Kingsley school, to begin a similar project with pupils from year two and three, but this time it will be as part of a wider initiative in partnership with the NHS and Goals – a healthy living organisation which aims to combat obesity in school children.
