Parents Evening provides online safety for Parents & Pupils
Online Safety at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School went ahead as part of their parents evening where the friendly, one to one format, proved popular with the parents.
EverybodyOnline enabled them to participate fully and safely in the online activities and education of their children where they openly discussed their fears and concerns. The demand from the evening was so high that a further interactive session is now planned to take place before Christmas at the school.
As each set of parents finished their interview with the teacher EverybodyOnline tutors took them through the interactive articles with the aid of laptops and an overhead projector. The parents were introduced to concepts such as: learning styles; for example, does their child prefer to watch a demonstration when learning something new or perhaps they need to touch and feel their way around a problem with the help of models or experiments. The parents were intrigued to learn more about their child by discovering the uniqueness of an individual's learning style!
Particular websites were then demonstrated to enable saftey at home on the internet. The parents experimented by downloading ‘tool bars’ with ‘parental controls’ and watched ‘webcasts’ with tips and information on how best to protect their child from sources of potential harm on the internet such as chat rooms and inappropriate sites.
