Knowle West Wireless Web
Knowle West Web is a community broadband service that provides affordable, high-speed Internet access to the residents of Knowle and Knowle West.
The initiative currently delivers broadband Internet access to over 60 homes and community venues and trials with the new more reliable and easy to use equipment on four homes began in May, with an aim to roll to 50 new homes and venues over the summer.
The project is run by Connecting Bristol, (backbone installed by Cityscape), and supported by SBDN, Bristol Wireless, Knowle West Media Centre and KWW Computers - who provide affordable, refurbished computer systems suitable for beginners.
(i) Rollout trial is progressing with participants being recruited. Issues of reliability of meshing router have delayed installions.
(ii) Community online suite: the community building originally agreed as the site for the online suite is facing funding difficulties and so other venue options for the suite are currently being looked into to.
