Funding success provides computer training opportunities

EverybodyOnline Gorgie Dalry and Dunedin Canmore Housing Association has secured over £19,000 from the Scottish Housing and Regeneration Fund.

The funding is to deliver a Computing and ‘Train the Trainer’ package for tenants of the Dunedin Canmore Housing Association and long term unemployed clients of partner agencies.

‘TRAINED UP’ has a four step process which provides an opportunity for computer and internet newcomers to achieve a recognised computer qualification and the chance to become a community computer trainer.

The first step provides beginner’s level computer training. The second step then follows on with the opportunity to achieve a recognised qualification such as the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) or Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS). The next step is to undergo a series of ‘train the trainer’ units at college level.

After completing the programme of initial computer training and train the trainer work, participants will then have the opportunity to co-deliver local computer and internet training sessions with the EverybodyOnline project and with Shelter’s digital inclusion initiative, Web Buddy. This will enable learners to build their confidence and gain experience valuable to employers. There will then be an opportunity to progress into further education with a possibility of gaining paid employment with local project partners.

The TRAINED UP project will work with a host of partner organisations such as: local libraries, Edinburgh Community Technology Academy, Stevenson College, Shelter, Action for Employment and a range of community groups and centres in socially excluded areas across Edinburgh.
