Synscenter Refsnæs - eAccessibility
Demonstrating the highest standards of accessibility and inclusivity in every aspect of the project, plus a commitment to attaining e-Accessibility in line with the EU guidance; meeting all the requirements and standards for convergence and interoperability in providing accessible and inclusive content.
Synscenter Refsnaes, the Danish Centre for Visually Impaired Children and Youth, has pioneered RoboBraille. This e-mail based translation service allows visually and reading impaired users to have electronic documents converted into either synthetic speech or Braille. The only skill a user needs in order to access the service is to be able to send and receive e-mails. The service is free of charge to all non-commercial users, making electronic documents widely accessible to people with visual or reading impairments. The turnaround time can be as short as a few minutes, meaning that RoboBraille represents a huge improvement in enabling blind and partially sighted people to have rapid access to information in a format of their choice.
Further information on Synscenter Refsnæs and Robobraille is available from their website, www.robobraille.org or alternatively in case study format on www.epractice.eu
