Creating strategic initiatives for joined up delivery
Communities@OneBased in Communities First areas across Wales, a team of Community Brokers are working with community groups to help engage people with ICT. The initiative aims to reach out to the people most excluded from new technologies and give them the opportunity to see what it can do for them so they can fulfill their social, economic and cultural potential.
eInclusion Charter
Funded by the ADI, the charter was developed and delivered by a consortium led by RNID and included the Disabled Living Foundation and Scientific Generics. The Charter states that disabled and older people should have the same rights to participate in the Information Society as other citizens.
Switch on Shropshire
Switch on Shropshire is a three year project managed by Shropshire County Council on behalf of the Shropshire Partnership and funded by The European Union and Regional Development Agency, AWM. It has set up 35 Community Broadplaces across the county in village halls, community centres, pubs, post offices and even a fire station. A Broadplace is somewhere with a high speed internet connection, six laptops, wireless enablement, printers, scanners, webcams, headsets and a whole range of software suitable for local community use as well as business support. The Kangaroo Inn at Aston on Clun is one such Broadplace in the South Shropshire Hills and it has a wireless link with the village hall. Launched in April 2006 local people can access Broadband and a beer. The Inn runs a number of locally provided formal and informal courses which are very popular and local businesses can also hire facilities for meeting clients and suppliers.
